You can use a large pan or even the sink for facial steaming. Simply bring water to a boil and hold your face a safe distance above. The goal is to allow the steam to penetrate the skin without scalding it. You may want to cover your head with a towel to help retain the steam. You can enhance the steam by adding a drop or two of tea tree oil to the water.
Speaking of tea tree oil, it is another home remedy that some people use for treating acne. This oil has a camphor scent and may work to kill the bacteria that causes acne. Never apply the oil directly to the skin as it is much too strong. The oil should be diluted to five percent oil, 95 percent water. A single drop or maybe two in a cup of water is enough to make a difference. Apply the mixture to your skin with a cotton ball and do not rinse. You can buy ready to use skin care products that contain the ideal amount of tea tree oil for oily or acne prone skin.
One of the easiest natural acne home treatments you can try is diet. A healthy diet is good for every part of your body, including your skin. While experts agree that chocolate and fried foods don't cause acne, they certainly don't help matters. Some believe that a diet rich in zinc can help reduce acne. Zinc is found in red meat, beans, nuts and other foods. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of water may also help improve the appearance of your skin. If you are interested in using diet to control acne it is a good idea to consult with a dermatologist and/or dietician who can help you devise an effective nutritional plan.
